Here are some reports from the field during last week’s cosmo-fueled rush to the movie theaters:
Denise (Lincoln Road): I drove by last night (the opening). Never have I seen so many groups of women at a movie theater, lined up outside, packing the escalators.
Jacqui (Dolphin Mall): When you get tickets, you have to line up until they open the movie theater. Well, when they opened the doors of the theater, all the women just rushed the doors. It was a STAMPEDE. My friend’s bra strap broke and we were all clutching at our purses and each other. The guy who was collecting the tickets – he finally just threw up his hands and said, “I give up.” And we didn’t stop running until we were sitting in our chairs.
Just imagine a bunch of crazy women chasing the Beatles. So for me it was awesome; I had a lot of fun. When we came out, everyone went to the bathroom, and they closed it. Was this sweet revenge for the movie theater after us rushing the poor guy who was collecting the tickets?
Now that the madness has died down a little, why not enjoy a night out with the ladies? Afterward, sashay arm in arm with your gal pals to the loud but elegant scene at Social Miami. Discuss over a fruity, overpriced cocktail as you admire the photographs from The Sagamore Collection on the spare, white walls. Why not? You can’t afford Blahniks, but you can splurge on a Patrón Sunset, a tasty, super-sweet concoction of Patrón tequila and muddled blood oranges. Make sure you either ask for this drink super-chilled or you down it quickly because once it warms up, it’s downright syrupy. Or you can go the obvious route with a cosmo.

Share some delicate gnocchi in a hearty, rich oxtail ragu while you rehash your own classic single-girl moments. Deconstruct the plot while you assemble your braised pork belly soft taco, filling a flour tortilla with unctuous, tender meat and guacamole. Careful not to let that zesty salsa verde run down your chin onto your fierce outfit. Like a good date-gone-wrong story, the dishes at Social are meant to be shared. The shared entrees, pizzas, and fruits de mer range from about $12 to $32. Signature cocktails go for about $15 a quaff. After a night here, we were down about $50 each. Not a cheap night out, but the food is quality and the loud and lively scene is a fitting close to a night out with the ladies.
