I’m so excited about this brunch, especially because of my recent curiosity about exotic tropical fruit. Just reading the menu inspires me to cook more with these crazy fruits we are lucky enough to have in South Florida. Here is the menu:
Amuse Bouche: “a shot” Avocado, “a shake” of Mamey;
Tropical Fruit Spritzers;
Baked Banana French Toast with Canistel Butter and Warm Maple Syrup;
Mango “a trois” : Scrambled Eggs with Mango;
Canistel Soup;
Mixed Greens, Mango and Avocado Salad with Tropical Fruit Infused Vinaigrette;
Spicy Ceviche with Mango Salsa;
Guacamole Wonton Delights;
Williams Grove Exotic Tropical Fruit Salad with Lemongrass-Mint Syrup;
Jackfruit-Coconut Cake with Cardamom-Rum Créme Anglaise.
The $60 ticket includes brunch as well as a tour of the exotic fruit plants at Fairchild with Dr. Richard Campbell. Rachel O’Kaine, Marcel Marino, and Susan Sadaka, from Le Cordon Bleu Miami, are the masterminds behind the menu.
Slow Food Miami is responsible for many creative, local, seasonal food gatherings like this. I’m happy to see the local chapter of Slow Food gain momentum.
When: Sunday, September 21, 2008, 10 am-1 pm
Where: Visitor Center Ballroom, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, 10901 Old Cutler Road, Coral Gables
How much: $60 per person, $110 per couple
Only four more days left to enter the Miami Dish contest!

I was all set to be excited about the first Slow Food dinner in months, but that menu isn’t doing much for me. Partially that because I’m not a big fan of mameys and canistels and have had my fill of mangoes for a while. But also, don’t those dishes seem a little basic to you?
I want to see your review but I don’t think I’m going to go to the trouble of trading off my Sunday shift at the reference desk so I can go.
