You might have noticed that while Chuck Ferrin has been holding down the fort with his Miami Drink column,  my own postings here have been fewer and farther between.  Don’t worry, I haven’t disappeared!

I’ve just been busy with some other freelance work, which is a fortunate thing to have in these days.  You may have noticed some of my writing for the Miami New Times food blog, Short Order.  Also, now that the radio series Under the Sun on 91.3 WLRN FM has gone weekly, we’ve all been a little busier over there.  Stay tuned for a food trucks story I’ve been working on!

I just posted on Short Order today about  food-related goings on during this weekend’s Art Basel festivities.  It’s not a comprehensive list, but just some things I think are interesting, including an Art Basil market featuring Roots in the City, Troy Gardens, and Feverish Ice Cream among the vendors.

Also, check out my interview with Jenifer Rubell, the artist named one of the 40 Big Food Thinkers 40 and Under by Food + Wine.  Her exhibit, “Just Right,” includes thousands of bowls of oatmeal.  Here’s a peek at the interview:

Every night that my five-year-old daughter is with me (since she lives with me half time), we cook and eat dinner together.  For her fourth birthday, I got her this hardcore Shun Santoku knife and people thought I was crazy.  I taught her how to use it.  The other night she cut a butternut squash perfectly.  When we cook, she’s in the charge of the vinaigrette from scratch and it’s really good.  Before we cook, we discuss what we’re cooking and what we want to put in it.   [more here...]
